The sweeping curve of the bird’s neck, layered luminous whites, and flowing feather movement create an almost bridal presence against the rich ultramarine and midnight blue background.

Rather than painting every feather literally, Janet Swahn approached this work with expressive movement and atmosphere, allowing the bird to feel both ethereal and sculptural at the same time.
